What a Rigid Gift Box Is Actually Made Of
Every rigid gift box has four layers: a greyboard core (1200-1800 gsm, 2-3 mm thick) that gives the box its structure, a printed wrap (usually 128-157 gsm coated art paper) glued over it, an optional finish layer (foil, emboss, spot UV, soft-touch), and an insert that holds the product.
Each layer is an independent cost and quality decision. The board determines how solid the box feels in hand; the wrap and finish determine how it photographs; the insert determines how the product presents on opening. Skimping on board to fund a fancier finish is the most common spec mistake we see.
